(Note: Judith published a series in the Massachusetts Magazine titled "The Gleaner" between 1792 and 1794. They are arguably her most important essays. In 1798, she published a number of these essays--and several unpublished ones--in book form. This book, also titled The Gleaner, was reissued in 1992 by Union College Press and may be ordered from any bookstore or Internet source.

Readers should know that Judith Sargent Murray made minor revisions to the "Gleaner" magazine essays before publishing them in her book. In the near future, the original essays will be available through this site.
