An important "first" for women
Founded in 1908 as the Portia Law School, over the years
the school evolved into today's New
England School of Law. Portia was THE FIRST law school in America
to admit women with or without a college degree. It was located at 43
Mount Vernon Street on Boston's Beacon Hill.
NESL hired Bonnie Hurd Smith to create, write, and design a trail of historic sites relating to women's legal history in Boston. The book will be published in the Fall of 2008.
